Jose Capellan performs well in winter ball
December 26th, 2009 | by adamburnett |Former Brewers reliever Jose Capellan’s career never took off as expected with the Crew. He appeared in 61 games out of the pen for the Brewers back in 2006 after being acquired from the Braves for Dan Kolb. He failed to make the parent club in 2007 and was eventually dealt to the Tigers for left handed pitcher Chris Cody. Capellan had a cup of coffee with the Rockies and failed to make the Astros last season as a starting pitcher. He really struggled for Houston’s Triple-A affiliate. A 2-10 record with a 7.07 ERA in 30 appearances, 14 starts for the Round Rock Express. Pitching in the Dominican league for the Gigantes del Cibao, he may have turned the corner. He led the league with a 2.15 ERA and in wins with 7. Of his 12 starts 7 of them went 6 innings. 41 strikeouts compared to just 12 walks showed better control. The winter performance landed him a deal with the Hanwha Eagles of the Korean Baseball Organization. He signed a 300,000 dollar contract with a 50,000 dollar signing bonus.
