Edwin Jackson would help the Crew
November 12th, 2009 | by adamburnett |Detroit Tigers all-star pitcher Edwin Jackson will receive a significant expected pay raise in arbitration this season and could qualify for free agency in two years. The Tigers have a plethora of bad contacts and may have to move some of their core players to save some money. Published reports claim the Tigers will listen to offers for centerfielder Curtis Granderson and staring pitcher Edwin Jackson. The Brewers could use a pitcher like Jackson, but do they have enough to send the Tigers in return. The Brewers have talented hitters in the minor leagues but the best pitchers are at the A-ball level right now. It all depends on how willing the Tigers are to move Jackson. If the offers aren’t good enough maybe they would take a player like Corey Hart, Mat Gamel or Brett Lawrie and a lower level pitcher. I would absolutely talk to the Tigers about what they’re looking to acquire.
Jackson is far from a sure thing, but has been a solid producer. In 2009 he ranked 7th among AL starters with a 3.62 ERA and threw 214 innings. The first half was 7-4 with a 2.52 ERA and the second half the wheels fell off. He went 6-5 with a 5.07 ERA after the all star break. I owned him on 2 of my fantasy baseball teams (Fall Guy Stuntman Association) and watched his season closely. He had side sessions to tweak his mechanics, but to no avail. He won 14 games for the Rays in 2008, but also faded after the all-star break. The fact that he’s a fly ball pitcher may not mesh well with Miller Park. He gave up 27 bombs last season and his GO/AO ratio was .84. The 26-year old hurler has turned his career around after being brought up too early by the Los Angeles Dodgers. Jackson would be one of my top choices to help fix the Brewers rotation.
